MIDNIGHT TRAIN TO GEORGIA (James D. Wheatherly)
-----------------------------------------------
This is only my take on some good work provided already, but this is in
the key in which Gladys Knight and The Pips recorded it. I think all of
the seventh chords are right, but the movement from D to A7 to Bm sounds like
it may be an A with a passing 7th note thrown in before the BM instead of just
an A7 (yes, I spent way too much time on this)

I like the "jangle" I get from playing these chords up the neck with a clean tube-amp
sound around the 7th and 9th frets on an electric guitar and there's not a lot of
traveling up and down the neck so you can look up and sing if you need to.
The A and G are easier in some instances if you play them in a "D" chord form,
instead of a "C" chord form, and the A7, well, pick your own favorite form. You may
want to play around with hammer ons on a lot of these chords for a bluesy effect.

D x F#m7 x G x A x A7 x Bm 7 E7 7 Em7 x

Mmmmm, L. A.
           D F#m7 Em7 A
Proved too much for the man (too much for the man)

(He couldn't make it) So he's leaving a life he's come to know
              D F#m7 Em7 A
(He said he's going) Said he's going back to find (going back to find)
D F#m7 E
m7 A
Ooh, Hooh, What's left of his world
D A7 Bm E7 A A A7 A7
A world he left behind not so very long ago, oh yeah

     D F#m7 Em7 A
He's leaving (leaving) on that midnight train to
  D F#m7 Em7 A
Georgia (leaving on a midnight train), oh yeah
          D A7 Bm E7
Said he's going back to find (he's going back to find)
          A A A7 A7
A simpler place and time
(and, when he takes that ride, guess who's gonna be right by his side)

  D F#m7 Em7 A7
I'll be with him (I know you will) on that midnight train to Georgia
Bm Bm E7 E7
(Leaving on the midnight train to Georgia... woo woo!)
G G A [stop]
I'd rather live in his world (live in his world) than live without him in mine
 D F#m7 Em7 A
(One world, it's his, his and hers alone)

He kept dreaming (dreaming)
That one day he'd be a star (a superstar, but he didn't get far)
Well he sure found out the hard way
That dreams don't always come true (dreams don't always come true, uh-uh, no, uh-uh)
So he pawned all his hopes (Wooh, hooh, hooh)
and he even sold his old car (Wooh, hooh, hooh, hooh)
Bought a one-way ticket back
To the life that he once he knew, oh yes he did, he said he would

I know he's leaving on that midnight train to
Georgia (leaving on a midnight train), oh yeah
Said he's going back to find (he's going back to find)
A simpler place and time (...guess who's gonna be right by his side)

I've got to be with him (I know you will) on that midnight train to Georgia
(Leaving on the midnight train to Georgia woo woo!)
I'd rather live in his world (live in his world) than live without him in mine

(one - world - is his - his and hers alone)
                        yeah - ah - heah - heah
(for love) For love, (gonna board) gonna board,
{all}the midnight train and ride

For love, (for love) gonna board, (gonna board)
Gonna board {all}the midnight train to go

For love, (for love) gonna board, (gonna board) Uh, huh
{all}the midnight train to go

My world (for love) His world (gonna board) our world
{all} mine and his alone

My world (for love) His world (gonna board) our world
{all} mine and his alone

I've got to go - I've got to go - midnight train to go
(for love) (gonna board - the midnight train to go)
