Composed by Ilhan Baran. 20th Century,World. Sheet Music Single. 14 pages. Published by Sonic Crossroads (S0.8088).

Ilhan Baran was born in 1934 in Artvin, Turkey. He studied composition with Ahmed Adnan Saygun. As the title indicates these pieces offer more abstract pianistic interpretations of Turkish dances than those by the earlier generation of composers known as the "Turkish Five." The three pieces are titled "Aksak" (Limping), "Zeybek" (a slower dance in 4 irregular beats of the Aegean region), and "Horon" (a Black Sea dance played on a bowed fiddle, the kemence). The audio excerpt is of the last piece demonstrating the highly virtuosic 'double-stop' playing typical of the Horon.
