In Gilbert And Sullivan's 'The Pirates of Penzance' our hero is Frederick, a young man apprenticed to a pirate king because of a misunderstanding - his nanny misheard his parent's request to apprentice him to a pilot. On the verge of turning his back on the ill-adjusted, swashbuckling lifestyle and crew, Frederick finds himself torn between his love for Mable, his desire to eliminate the scourge of piracy, and his sense of duty - the subtitle for the show is 'The Slave of Duty'. Of course, the final twist is another identity confusion - just when all seems lost, the pirates are bound over to surrender - because they're all orphaned noblemen. They regain their places in the House of Lords. This Vocal score contains all the dialogue and historical notes by Marie Eggold. it is edited by Bryceson Treharne.
