Lillie is the title of a most successful television series produced in England in 1978 by London Weekend TV, starring Francesca Annis. The thirteen one-hour episodes were shown several times all over the world. Lillie is the romantic life story of Mrs. Lillie Langtry, a great English society beauty of the 1880s, mistress of King Leopold, Prince Rudolf of Austria, Edward the Prince of Wales, and the cause of countless scandals. Her close friend Oscar Wilde encouraged her acting career and she developed into one of the highest paid stars in England and America. For the theme music, Joseph Horovitz received the 'Ivor Novello Award' as 'The Best TV music of the Year'. This first publication for wind orchestra was specially arranged by the composer.
