Choral octavo. Published by Paraclete Press. PL.9336. Billings' canons, four in number, appear in his first printed collection, "The New England Psalm Singer. 1770. The canons may be sung by solo voices, a chamber group or full choir. Billings would approve the octave doubling of male and female voices on any part and the presence of low basses on the "chusing" notes of the one ground bass.
