Director Dario Argento selected the famous soundtrack of the movie Profondo Rosso, composed by Giorgio Gaslini and performed by the progressive rock group Goblin, only as a second choice. In fact, he originally asked the group Pink Floyd to write the music, but they declined because they were already engaged in the production of one of their own recordings. Argento then contacted Gaslini, with whom he had already collaborated in one of his previous movies. Yet, the director felt that Gaslini's music alone was not good enough for the movie, as he needed something more modern. Intrigued by a demo recording of Goblin, he invited them to collaborate on the project with Gaslini. They eagerly accepted and in the end, according to Argento, they were responsible for 90% of the original soundtrack.
