S0.34961. A hauntingly beautiful modern. but tonal. setting of the famous 'Coventry Carol' from the 16th century in which Jesus is saved while King Herod slaughters all the other 'yonge children'. This bitter-themed Christmas Carol is set for 'a capella' SATB choir - perhaps most effectively for a good chamber choir of one or two voices a part - but it would also work with larger numbers. There are many rests 'built into' the music, allowing emotion to flow. The harmonies are sometimes stark but the work is tonal. The voices may be doubled by an quiet organ if required. This is a setting that is to be performed as part of a Christmas Carol concert or church service and so will form a poignant focal point.
